Audition

In Na hAille

the clouds

are nearly reaching

the tips of the trees.

I can hardly see

the sea.

Luckily for me

not every conifer takes –

there is a gap.

I gape through it

from where I sit

at Annegret’s table.

I see Lisa passing

in her silver car.

She waves,

I wave back.

I might write a poem today –

if only something

would come to me.

Then again there’s always

daytime TV.

I wonder if Lisa

knows anything

about the londubh

who calls me out

in this weather.

Singing like it was an audition

for Carnegie Hall.

I wonder where Lisa goes

in her silver lining.
